Evo X Transmission Cooler DIY Baffle, Part 3: Finished

By this time it was ~2-3am, so I was a little irratated, sleepy, tired, etc. But almost done--just gotta put it all back together. Oh, and clean up. Sigh.

Paint dried. Screwed the bottom and side panels to the stock baffle. Unfortunately I was impatient and scratched the paint a little doing so. But otherwise, looks pretty good. The paint matched the color of the stock plastic well.

On the car!
Final Baffle Mounted Front It is hard to see, but instead of the stock push-tabs, I mounted the baffle using screws and bolts to be more secure, since more air would be hitting the augmented baffle.

Voila--bumper back on. As you can see, the stock cooler is positioned quite a bit higher than the opening in the bumper, and a little offset towards the middle of the car. The modification should move significantly more air towards the cooler, and hopefully give many more laps before having to pit!

7-9-10 @ Laguna Seca: Never drove this track before, and I really needed to be able to drive the car back home to LA, so I was taking it easy my first 20min run, and used the Sport Mode in Automatic, but did not get any "slow down" notice at all (no other problems either)! Left the hood open until the next run. However, the next time out I used the Super Sport Mode, and never got the notice, but I did feel the transmission miss a few shifts--I was pushing the car significantly more than during the first run though. And then during the 3rd run (Super Sport Mode, ASC + AYC full off), again no notice but did miss shifts, so I decided to put it into manual mode and shifted only when I absolutely had to. Unfortunately I was black flagged for failing the sound check, so then the rest of the day was spent trying to avoid getting flagged again. Only had 3 good runs. I would say the modification was a partial success--never got "transmission overheating, slow down" but the transmission did miss shifts. Manually shifting should help the problem enough to get through a full 20min run session though with these modifications.
